Which AI model should you use to make a film in 2026?

Seedance 2.5, Kling 4.0 and GPT Image 2.5 do different jobs. Here are the published specifications, the access limits and the difference between a still image and a finished video shot.

The short answer. Seedance 2.5 and Kling 4.0 are video models whose makers describe clips of up to 30 seconds. GPT Image 2.5 creates and edits still images, with custom dimensions up to 3840 × 2160 pixels in its API. None of these ceilings measures the quality of a finished film.

Seedance 2.5, Kling 4.0 and GPT Image 2.5 do different jobs. The first two are video models. GPT Image 2.5 makes and edits still images that may become concepts, references or keyframes in a film workflow. A 4K file alone does not prove native 4K generation or a usable shot.

This guide distinguishes vendor specifications from Nexia's own productions. The specifications below come from the model makers. We have not run a like-for-like public benchmark of these three products. Our film INITIUM illustrates Andy Lechapelier's direction, not a test of the exact model versions discussed here.

The comparison, with its limits

ModelWhat its maker describesLength and resolutionAccess evidenced by the cited source
Seedance 2.5Video and audio generation, image/video/audio references, targeted editingUp to 30 seconds per generation. The cited announcement does not specify a native video resolution.ByteDance announced rollout on Jimeng and Doubao Pro, with BytePlus ModelArk API access to follow. This is the announcement's status, not a live account check.
Kling 4.0Video generation, multimodal references and up to ten keyframesUp to 30 seconds. Kling lists 720p, 1080p and 4K options, including 10-bit HDR at 1080p and 4K.Kling's published comparison describes limited early access to 4.0 Flash from 28 September and a wider October launch. The availability of each mode must be checked in the account used for a project.
GPT Image 2.5Still-image generation and editing through the Flare and Sunburst API modelsNo video duration. Custom image dimensions can reach 3840 × 2160 px; dimensions above 2560 × 1440 are experimental in the API documentation. The cited OpenAI documentation describes API capabilities. It does not establish that the same controls exist in every product interface.

These are published ceilings, not measurements of image stability, cost, generation speed or the percentage of shots that survive an edit. Comparing brand names without the exact model, mode, account and output file gives an unreliable production decision.

Seedance 2.5: duration and references

ByteDance's announcement describes up to 30 seconds in one generation, extensions, mixed image/video/audio references and time-specific edits. Those capabilities could help a director establish motion, character, setting or shot transitions before an edit. They do not guarantee that all 30 seconds will be usable or that a later shot will match.

For a meaningful trial, record the precise access channel, version, prompt, references, output resolution and number of attempts. Examine identity, geometry, text, movement and sound across the full shot. The native output resolution is left unspecified in the announcement used here, so we cannot call Seedance 2.5 a native 4K video model on this evidence.

Kling 4.0: directing key moments

Kling's comparison of versions 4.0 and 3.0 describes up to 30 seconds, as many as ten keyframes and richer image, subject and video references. A sequence with several visual beats may therefore be easier to guide than with only start and end frames. These are the company's claims about its model family, not a promise that every control is available in every account or yields a production-ready shot.

4K is not unique to Kling 4.0: Kling says its 3.0 family already supported native 4K. The new comparison also lists 10-bit HDR at 1080p and 4K for version 4.0. Before choosing a mode, inspect the rendered file and the actual access conditions. Pixel dimensions do not tell you whether a face, product, material or camera movement holds together from frame to frame.

GPT Image 2.5: a still frame, not a video model

OpenAI's image-generation documentation describes custom dimensions for GPT Image 2.5 Flare and Sunburst. A request can specify 3840 × 2160 pixels, while resolutions above 2560 × 1440 are labelled experimental. The max quality option is a separate setting from the output dimensions. Neither turns a still image into a moving shot.

A director can use a still to explore composition, art direction or a reference frame, then choose a separate method for animation, 3D, live action or compositing. The image's consistency after animation and its rights and compatibility with a video model need to be checked for the specific project.

What does 4K actually mean?

Native generation means that the model calculates a frame at the stated dimensions in the chosen mode. 4K export means the delivered file has 3840 × 2160 pixels, which may originate from a smaller generation. Upscaling adds pixels after generation. It can improve presentation but does not prove native generation or fix temporal inconsistency.

GPT Image 2.5's 4K option concerns a still image. Kling's published 4K options concern video. The cited Seedance 2.5 announcement does not establish a native output resolution. These statements should not be collapsed into a single “best 4K model” ranking.

How we choose a model for a film

  1. Define the shot. Specify the subject, action, useful duration, framing, brand constraints and place in the edit.
  2. Test the accessible mode. Use authorized references and record the model version, settings, output format and sound behaviour.
  3. Review the complete rendered material. Check character and product identity, geometry, text, background, movement, cut points and visible artifacts.
  4. Finish the film. Select or remake shots, then edit, animate, composite and check image and sound for the intended delivery format.

This is a production method, not a model league table. Nexia's AI film studio in France page explains the studio's approach. INITIUM and the ESA project show finished work and context. They do not establish that Seedance 2.5 or Kling 4.0 was used on those films.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI video model for a film in 2026? There is no single best model for every shot. Duration, reference control, access, resolution and continuity matter. Test the real shot rather than adopting a vendor ceiling as a quality score.

Is Kling 4.0 available to everyone? The cited Kling page describes limited early access for 4.0 Flash and an October rollout. It does not confirm the current access rights or all features in any particular account.

Does GPT Image 2.5 generate 4K video? No. It generates still images. Its API can request a 3840 × 2160 image under documented limits; moving video is another step.

Does 4K guarantee a better film? No. Motion, temporal detail, editing, grade, sound and delivery conditions also matter.

Sources and update method

This candidate was checked on 13 October 2026 against ByteDance Seed's Seedance 2.5 announcement, Kling AI's 4.0 versus 3.0 comparison and OpenAI's image-generation API guide. Vendor statements are attributed to their makers. We will revise access or capability claims only when a dated source or a reproducible trial supports the change.
